Stormdry Repointing Additives

  • Concentrated products (dilute with water before use)
  • Additive No.1 Breathable
  • Additive No.2 Enhanced waterproofing and bonding

A certain amount of repointing will usually be necessary when dealing with rain penetration problems in masonry walls. This is because small cracks in the mortar course and cracks in the interface between the mortar and brick/stone can acts as pathways through which rain can penetrate. In many cases, only localised sections of mortar will require repointing. However, where the mortar is in particularly poor condition it may be necessary to repoint the whole wall.

Stormdry Repointing Additives are designed to enhance the waterproofing characteristics of mortar mixes used for repointing. They are diluted with water before being used as a gauging solution. Two types are available:

Stormdry Repointing Additive No. 1 - This contains a blend of silanes and siloxanes (similar to those found in Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream). These block water ingress whilst still allowing the mortar to breathe.

Stormdry Repointing Additive No. 2 - This repointing additive is polymer modified. It adds excellent waterproofing properties to repointing mortars and enhanced bonding properties between the brick/stone and the mortar. Unlike Stormdry Repointing Additive No. 1, this additive does not allow the mortar to breathe.

Customer Questions

Andrew York

I have a 1945 house which I'm repointing . Would it be safe to use additive 2 on the bricks below the soil level . I have dug down to where the bricks sit on concrete. Most of the mortar has been weathered away and is full of soil. I was thinking about using additive 2 or 1 when repointing.

Jack Harding at Safeguard

Good Afternoon Andrew

Thank you for your questions.

You can apply the Repointing additive to bricks below soil level. We would recommend allowing the mortar to fully cure before backfilling with soil after.

Any questions please contact us on 01403 210204 or email us at [email protected]

Kind regards

Jack

Is there any benefit to using Stormdry Repointing Additive No.1 when applying Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream?

Safeguard Europe

Repointing using Stormdry Repointing Additive No.1 provides enhanced waterproofing protection in this vulnerable area.

Although both products provide similar benefits, for the highest level of protection against moisture ingress there is considerable value in applying both together.

Safeguard Europe

Can Stormdry Repointing Additive No.1 / No.2 be used to create a DPC?

Safeguard Europe

Repointing with Stormdry Repointing Additive No.1 provides enhanced waterproofing protection to the mortar. It can help protect from both penetrating and rising damp, but it cannot be used to create a DPC. Establishing DPCs using admixes does not comply with British Standards for rising damp treatment.

Safeguard Europe

How long after repointing with Stormdry Repointing Additive No. 1 or No. 2 can Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream be applied?

Safeguard Europe

After repointing is carried out, we recommend allowing the mortar to cure before applying Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream.
Leave sand:cement mortar for at least 14 days before applying Stormdry.
For natural lime mortars, waiting time may be several weeks to months; depending on the exact composition. Please contact us for further advice.
