Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream

Dry walls are warm walls — improve your home's energy efficiency by reducing heat loss.

Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream is a BBA approved deeply penetrating waterproof brick cream for the protection of external masonry.

The thick white cream formulation is easy to use and ready straight out of the tub. Apply by brush, roller or airless spray. Watch as it cures to a colourless finish, letting the natural look of your home shine through. Prevent penetrating damp while allowing saturated walls to dry out faster than on untreated brick. Used this recently on the outside wall which takes most of the rain and bad weather. It took longer than I expected for the stonework to return to its original colour So far all seems well and the water is starting to bead off the wall when it rains

Customer Questions

Sophie

Can this be used over pebbledash? We have an area in an upstairs bedroom which seems to have some damp on the wall and not sure how to treat it. Thanks

Safeguard Europe

Hi,

Thanks for your question. Yes, Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream can be applied over pebbledash.

Ben Farrand

Can the Stormguard Cream be used on exposed Medium Density blockwork?

Safeguard Europe

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your question. Yes, Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream be applied to Medium Density blockwork. Please note that the absorption rate be slower than standard bricks. The size of the capillaries may impact the performance of Stormdry Cream, so overcoating with Stormdry MAX may be necessary.

Please get in touch at 01403 210204, and we'll be able to assist you in more depth.

Keith Ellender

Can I apply masonry paint to a treated wall or does it inhibit the effectiveness of the waterproofing?

Safeguard Europe

Hey Keith,

Solvent-based paints can be applied over a wall cured with Stormdry, with some reduction in breathability. It should not inhibit the effectiveness of the waterproofing.

Water-based paints can be applied between 2-10 days after the initial cure, but there may be reduced paint adhesion.

Thanks,

Safeguard Europe

Which substrates are NOT compatible with Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream?

Safeguard Europe

Painted and coated surfaces
Internal walls, floors and ceilings
Limestone, including Portland, Blue Lias, Cotswold, Bath Stone and Hamstone. (For a limestone treatment, use Raincheck LS)
Bungaroosh
Fibre cement roofing sheets and panels

Safeguard Europe

Can I apply Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream onto Lime Mortar?

Safeguard Europe

Yes, as long as there is some sand content within the lime mortar mix.

We recommend waiting 1 to 2 months before applying Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream onto recently applied lime mortar. Earlier application may inhibit the mortar curing process as well as Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream penetration.

If there is cement in the mortar mix, Stormdry Masonry Cream can be applied after 2 to 3 weeks.

Safeguard Europe

Will an application of Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream alter the aesthetics of masonry by drying with a sheen (a shiny finish) or change the appearance of the masonry in any way?

Safeguard Europe

Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream has been formulated to cure to a colourless finish with no gloss or pigmentation.

Because Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream achieves its water repellency by lining the pores of the masonry rather than by coating the masonry surface, it will not leave a glossy sheen associated with some masonry sealant products.

In some rare cases, after an initial application of Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream, there can be a slight darkening of the brickwork, but this will fade with time and will return to normal.

We always recommend carrying out a small discrete test area prior to the full application of Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream to masonry to confirm aesthetic acceptability.

Safeguard Europe

How long does the beading effect take to appear once Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream has been applied?

Safeguard Europe

It may take up to two months after application for the full beading effect to appear when rainfall hits the treated wall.

Safeguard Europe

Can I apply Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream to a wet wall?

Safeguard Europe

Stormdry can be applied to damp / wet walls, although it will slow down the absorption time. It will not affect the performance once Stormdry Masonry Cream has 'soaked in'.

Safeguard Europe

Can I repoint a wall that has been treated with Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream?

Safeguard Europe

Once a wall has been treated with Stormdry Masonry Cream, new mortar will struggle to adhere to it unless the following steps are carried out:

Rake the existing mortar out to at least 25 mm to remove any existing mortar that has absorbed Stormdry Masonry Cream. Repoint with a sand:cement mortar containing Stormdry Repointing Additive No.1.

The above also applies to lime mortar.

Safeguard Europe

Which substrates are compatible with Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream?

Safeguard Europe

Stormdry Masonry Cream is suitable for application to the following unpainted/uncoated external substrates:

Sand & cement renders (Monocouche, Harling)
Concrete
Mud
Earth mortar
Natural and / or man made composite slate such as paving; cladding; roofing products
Uncoated / unpainted roof tiles

Stone such as:
Bullwell Stone

These specific sandstones: Sheffield; York; Blaxter; Glasgow Red

3:1 NHL 2/Building Sand
3:1 NHL 3.5/Plastering Sand
3:1 NHL 3.5/Sharp Sand
3:1 NHL 3.5/Building Sand

6:1 Cement/Sharp Sand

Vandersanden (Quartis)

Laterite Brick (Ghana)

It is always recommended to apply Stormdry Masonry Cream to a small area to check compatibility before applying it over a wide area.

Safeguard Europe

Can I apply a second coat of Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream after an initial coat has been applied?

Safeguard Europe

A second coat is not necessary, assuming it was applied in accordance with our preparation and application guidelines and to a compatible substrate.

We do not recommend applying more than one coat as this may reduce wall breathability.

Safeguard Europe

Can I apply Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream to internal walls?

Safeguard Europe

Stormdry Masonry Cream is designed to prevent rain penetration through an external wall, whilst allowing water vapour from within the building to pass through to the outside.

For this reason, we do not recommend it for use internally.
