Stormdry EP-Board System

  • SPACE-SAVING INTERNAL WALL INSULATION BOARD - Each board measures 1.2 × 0.6 m with 13 mm overall thickness, balancing energy efficiency with usable space in your home.

  • IMPROVES YOUR HOME’S EPC RATING - Revolutionary ultralight Aerogel technology used by NASA provides super-efficient thermal energy savings.

  • FULLY BREATHABLE - Lets trapped moisture pass through safely. Prevent condensation without compromising energy-saving performance.

  • INSULATES SMALLER AND HERITAGE PROPERTIES - thin insulation board suitable for older retrofit buildings and smaller properties and flats.

  • USE WITH STORMDRY MASONRY PROTECTION CREAM - Insulate inside with Stormdry EP-Board, then apply Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream to the exterior for the ultimate breathable energy-saving insulation treatment.

Stormdry EP-Board is a thin aerogel internal insulation plasterboard system for solid walls. Developed using highly insulating aerogel technology, the EP Board system drastically improves the thermal efficiency of solid walls in a slimline format.

Developed using highly insulating aerogel technology, the system drastically improves the thermal efficiency of solid walls.

Stormdry EP-Board is just 13 mm in width. It is an aerogel and magnesium oxide board that can be affixed directly to solid walls to increase its energy-saving capabilities.

Each board is 1.2 × 0.6 m in size.

Customer Questions

Mike Robert Richardson

How many ep stormdry boards come in a pack?

Safeguard Europe

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your question. Stormdry EP-Board is sold as one board per pack.

Safeguard Europe

Can I apply EP-Board to the inside of a wardrobe or cupboard to prevent condensation forming?

Safeguard Europe

Applying EP-Boards inside cupboards and wardrobes will reduce the likelihood of condensation forming on those surfaces.

Consideration should be given to carrying out measures to improve airflow within the cupboard or wardrobe with ventilation improvements.

Safeguard Europe

What substrates do EP-Board Adhesive adhere to?

Safeguard Europe

EP-Board Adhesive will adhere to most substrates such as brick, block, concrete, plasterboard and painted surfaces (such as painted wallpapers) as long as the surface is keyed rather than smooth, and free of grease, oil, dust, dirt, loose particles etc.

The surface should also be checked and treated for adhesion reducing coatings such as grease and laitance, as these may impact the adhesion of the EP-Board Adhesive.

If the surface is flaking or friable it should be removed back to the substrate.

We recommend you lightly wet the wall surface before applying EP-Board Adhesive to aid the curing of EP-Board Adhesive and avoid unwanted expansion.

Do any other products need to be installed when installing EP-Board in a property?

Safeguard Europe

EP-Board should be installed in conjunction with an application of Stormdry Masonry Cream or Raincheck LS (as appropriate to the substrate) externally to reduce the potential for interstitial condensation.

Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream also improves the thermal efficiency of the wall by preventing penetrating damp; leading to potential further U-Value improvements.

What are the benefits of EP-Board in comparison to a Polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation board?

Safeguard Europe

The key difference between EP-Board and PIR insulation boards is that EP board uses an insulating Aerogel Blanket as opposed to foam.

Aerogel is a highly insulating material with a thermal conductivity (Lambda Value) of 0.015 W/mK compared to a value of approximately 0.022 - 0.025 W/mK for PIR insulation boards. The lower the W/mK value, the more insulating it is.

EP-Board has a lower thermal conductivity than typical PIR insulation boards, so a thinner layer can be used to achieve the desired thermal benefit or U-value reduction.

In a retrofit scenario, internal Aerogel insulation takes up less floor space; minimising the need for existing feature re-modelling like doors and window reveals. This reduces overall time and installation costs.

An additional benefit of EP-Board over PIR insulation is that it allows the movement of water vapour. As long as you apply a suitably breathable plaster atop the EP-Board, moisture can pass through. This is particularly desirable for retrofit insulation applications in historic or solid wall properties

PIR insulation boards are typically faced with vapour impermeable foil, which traps moisture or condensation behind the board and damages building fabric.

Is it possible to improve the EPC rating of a property using EP-Board?

Safeguard Europe

Installation of new energy efficiency measures like EP-Board are worth a certain amount of 'points' depending on the current EPC grading of the house.

To make an estimate of this before installation and then after to receive the new Energy Performance Certificate, you will need to consult a SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) Advisor. A SAP Advisor can determine exactly how much EP-Board installation will improve the EPC rating.

We can supply technical information about EP-Boards for the SAP Advisor upon request.

Safeguard Europe

What standards and certifications has EP-Board achieved?

Safeguard Europe

EP-Board has been tested to all the relevant EN standards for thermal conductivity, water vapour permeability and reaction to fire.

Safeguard Europe

The U-value achieved by adding EP-Board varies according to the nature of the structure that the insulation is applied to.

An example is below. Please note that these figures will vary by wall according to the structure of the wall:

Wall construction: 225 mm
Initial U-Value: 2.1 W/m² K
With EP-Board System: 0.8 W/m² K
Heat Loss Reduction with EP-Board System: 61%

The following metrics will enable a SAP Assessor/ DEA to calculate the benefits that it will bring to a specific property:

Thickness: 13 mm
Thermal Conductivity: Aerogel layer: 0.015 W/mK / MgO Board layer: 0.19 W/mK
