Dryzone Hi-Lime Renovation Plaster contains a higher proportion of natural hydraulic lime and calcite, making it appropriate for use in traditional and heritage buildings. The high breathability of the plaster makes for a quick-drying application and ensure moisture vapour flow through the wall is not impeded.

Replaster after rising damp treatment, with Dryzone Damp-Proofing Cream or Dryrod Damp-Proofing Rods, in traditional or heritage buildings.

Dryzone Hi-Lime Renovation Plaster is an environmentally-friendly alternative to hard cement render. Its porous structure allows moisture to evaporate from walls to achieve a dry decorative surface.

Is this suitable for a scratch coat over tanking slurry in a basement? Also, if it is breathable and allows moisture and vapour to pass through then would gypsum plasters become damp if used on top? Cheers

Thank you for your question.

Dryzone® Hi-Lime Renovation Plaster can be used as a plaster coat over Drybase Tanking Slurry, the rough coat of plaster should be applied while the second coat of tanking is still 'green'.

Dryzone® Hi-Lime Renovation Plaster can be left as a decorative finish as this offers the greatest breathability. If a gypsum skim coat is to be applied, leave the plaster to set for a minimum of 24 hours before applying and keep to a thickness of approximately 2 mm. Any other finishing is carried out once the curing process is complete, after at least 14 days. Redecorate using a non-vinyl based emulsion paint.

Regarding the renovation plasters, why not just use a traditional lime plaster mix? That will give the greater breathability.
How can the renovating plasters allows walls to breathe and dry down naturally if moisture and salt is not able to migrate to the surface ?

That’s an excellent question.

The difference lies in how each plaster handles moisture and salt.

With traditional lime mix plasters, salts and moisture are drawn through to the surface, which often causes blistering and damage to the finish. This could potentially lead to decorative spoiling.

In contrast, our Dryzone Hi-Lime Renovation Plaster is a breathable plaster with a porous structure. This design allows walls to dry out naturally through evaporation. While salts are still drawn from the wall, they are contained within the renovation plaster and do not reach the surface finish.

Hi Trevor,

Thank you for the questions. The difference between the Hi-Lime Plaster and the other Renovation Plasters is that the Hi-Lime has a Lime based formulation, making it more suitable to heritage properties or properties that already have existing lime plaster throughout.

You are also able to skim over our Renovation Plasters with a Multi-Finish Skim coat, we just advise that this does not exceed 2mm. Alternatively some people like to leave the Hi-Lime Renovation Plaster as the final finish.

For a low porosity background such as engineering brick, does the Dryzone Hi-Lime Renovation Plaster need the brick work to be primed with anything? If so, does the Drybase Liquid-Applied Damp-Proofing Membrane work for this? Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your question.

It should not be necessary to need a priming solution for Dryzone Hi-Lime Renovation Plaster. For particularly high suction or dry backgrounds, first wet down the surface using clean water. Do not use other additives such as PVA.

Drybase Liquid Applied DPM would not be suitable as a primer for walls. It is a Liquid Damp Proof Membrane designed for floors and floor to wall junctions as part of a rising damp treatment.
