Crack-Stitching System for Masonry Repair

The Brickfix Remedial Crack-Stitching Repair system offers a fast and cost-effective method to stabilise cracked masonry walls.

Stabilise cracks by bonding Brickfix stainless steel helical crack-stitching bars into narrow slots cut along the mortar course and encapsulating them with specially formulated Brickfix CE1 Grout.

Brickfix Crack-Stitching System

It should be noted that this method of crack repair can only stabilise the symptoms of cracked masonry walls. It will not cure the cause of the crack (e.g. subsidence). For this reason it is recommended that a structural engineer is consulted before undertaking crack repairs. Crack-stitching will not repair the causes of the cracking, but it will permanently repair the symptoms of them.

Typical Crack Repair Method

Repairing masonry cracks with the Brickfix Crack-Stitching Kit.

Step 1 of the Brickfix application. Cut horizontal slot.
1) Using suitable chasing equipment, cut horizontal slots into masonry to the required width, depth, and length.
Step 2 of the Brickfix application. 500 mm either side.
2) Slots should be cut 500 mm either side of any opening or crack. Vertically, each slot should be 300 to 450 mm apart along the crack.
Step 3 of the Brickfix application. Clean slot.
3) Clean out slots thoroughly with clean water.
Step 4 of the Brickfix application. Mix all supplied ingredients.
4) Mix grout according to instructions.
Step 5 of the Brickfix application. Attach the nozzle.
5) Assemble the applicator gun by connecting the black conical nozzle (with the large aperture) to the long black cylinder. Then attach the metal nozzle to the black conical nozzle.
Step 6 of the Brickfix application. Fill applicator gun.
6) Fill the applicator gun main cylinder with the prepared grout mixture. Then insert the filled tube into the applicator gun.
Brickfix Step 7 - Apply Grout
7) Squeeze the trigger to release the grout and fill the entire length of each slot, ensuring there are no breaks in the bead of grout.
Brickfix Step 8 - Insert Crack Stitching Bar
8) Insert the desired length of BrickFix® Helical Bar into the slot and push it into the grout to the correct depth using the finger trowel.
Brickfix Step 9 - Apply More Grout
9) Apply a second bead of grout to cover the bar completely.
Brickfix Step 10 - Repoint
10) Smooth the grout using the finger trowel then repoint with a suitable mortar.
